I am not sure why they are working, but they are. I went back to Google adsense and remade the script for the ad. I then copied it right into the same spot in the template as I did the first time. And it all worked except the fourth ad block. I still don’t see a difference in the ads but rather than fight with it, I just removed that part of the script and now it seems fine. Let me know folks, does it look OK to you?
I am starting to understand the template files a little more and managed to find the files that display the header. I changed them just a little and added the “orange man” at the umbrella table with his laptop. He looks comfy, doesn’t he? Actually, that little guy comes in a number of different poses and situations. I am considering using him as my business “identity”. You can see more of him at the artist’s website, www.jesterarts.net. Check it out! He is really quite cool.
Hoorah! I got the FTP issue resolved with Netfirms, my hosting provider. Turns out, when I redirected the www.carrington.bz domain, the FTP login got a little picky. It didn’t recognize my old login and that was why it was failing. I also found a Twitter widget I like! It is called Twitter Tools by Alex King. I have it currently configured to only show the last three “tweets” from my account. But,it will do alot more! You can post blog entries from Twitter or tweets from the blog and a few other nifty tricks. You can read more about this widget here. You can now read my latest tweets in the sidebar.
I had intended to make some changes tonight, including adding a new widget for twitter. However, after downloading the widget I wanted and completing the install of WS-FTP on my laptop, I could not connect to the host. I had to install WS-FTP because I am in the middle of transferring my desktop computer files to the laptop and my ftp program hadn’t been moved yet. They must be having an issue on their ftp server or something. I sent them a note. And then, of course, I was goofing off and watching the Olympics. Tomorrow is another day.

I didn’t accomplish anything on the blog last night, but I did change the stock Products page to a short blurb about Privacy. Rest assured that this blog will not sell or share email addresses, post them anywhere on the site or even use them to send out newsletters of any kind. The only reason I collect them is to allow for user registration and to combat spam.
Tonight I will be trying to replace the stock ad placeholders in the right column. These will probably be affiliate type ads about companies with whom I do business. Visit them and check out the offers. They are some of the best in their category.
Don’t forget, if you are having, or notice, any issues with these pages, please let me know.

Installing the WordPress application on my host was pretty easy. They have this ‘one button’ install thingy that worked well. Big problem though … All the templates I like only work on a more recent version.
I read up on the upgrade process and then did it! It only took me a little over an hour to accomplish.
I managed to get my adsense account reactivated and inserted the proper code to get the google ads across the top of the page. The ads come in from Google based on the content of the page. I imagine they will change over time. I tried to change the code to get the first box ad in the side bar to work, but as you can see, that didn’t work out so well. I think I am going to use affiliate links in that area instead of Google for the moment, but not tonight. I am worn out.
Tom helped me get the comment feature to work correctly. I am requiring registration and log in to combat spam. Once a user is registered and has one post approved, all subsequent ones will post without further approval. I am not real impressed with the function that allows you to change your password. It isn’t very intuative. I will have to look at changing the code for that too.
The header picture is stock … for now. It is on my list for a remake too. Hmmm, maybe ’someone’ will design something artsie or whatever for me???

Thanks for stopping by!
I am in the process of learning about blogging. Sure, it is fairly simply to setup an account with any of the blog sites, like WordPress. However, I am learning to do it right on my host. I think it may allow me more options in the display and more freedom of expression.
If you would like to follow my progress, click on the RSS feed link above. I will be posting after each change I make and explain what I have done. Your comments are welcome too! Create a username and join in the fun!
Thanks for tuning in. Check back often and see how it is going.
