Paul Myers has managed to put together yet another plan of action that should give any beginner a solid foundation to get started towards earning a real income online. There is a real path here that is simple to follow. I have now read through the report twice, printed it out and highlighted some of the tips so I can find them easier the next time through.

I found more than a few ideas that have made me think about new ways to jumpstart an online business. I really got excited by the ‘Choosing Your Market’ section and some great ideas on how to research and search for product ideas. Paul’s ideas on how and when to write the sales letter were real clear. It makes perfect sense. That, and the methods for creating products has truly helped me “get it.” Anyone new to online business needs to read and use “Build Your Own Empire 20 Pages at a Time.”

Folks, you can also get a free copy of one of Paul’s reports on Internet Marketing called “Need to Know” absolutely free. Just follow this link.

This book is Eric Wilson’s first in the series of his “Jerusalem’s Undead Trilogy”. I read a few of the reviews on this book and the ‘experts’ were  a bit critical of his writing style. Folks, this one is a fun and entertaining read. It is based on some fact, some legend and some pure fiction. I enjoyed the story line and even the writing style. That’s the point after all, isn’t it? Pure entertainment. The story twists the legends of vampires and biblical history. Thoroughly enjoyable and captivating, I didn’t want to put it down as the story unfolded.  I look forward to the remainder of the series.

The story of a young Romanian girl, Gina, who by some twist of fate has some importance to the Collectors. They are the vampires of the story, but they are more than just vampires. Like any great “Good vs. Evil” story the Collectors are opposed by the Nistarim. The Nistarim are the protectors of mankind and also appear to have some interest in Gina. Gina’s story leads us from Romania to the United States and back again always closely followed by the Collectors. I can hardly wait for the remainder of the story to unfold. Why is Gina so important to both? Who will prevail?

Eric Wilson did a terrific job of researching and melding history into this story. You will enjoy this book and like me, will be anticipating the next.

Keeping Everyone Safe

I work for a new-media company, Ottaway Newspapers, and we have a number of daily publications spread out around the country. One of our newspapers, The Times Herald Record, is just around the corner from our offices.

Last week, one of the folks in the technology department didn’t show up for work. He never, ever just doesn’t show up. There is always a call from him. His supervisor called his cell phone, left a messsage when there was no answer and still there was no call. The next day, he didn’t show up again and still there was no call. The supervisor tried again and this time, when he could not connect, he got worried there might be a problem and called the police. George was found, next door at his parent’s house. He had passed away while checking on their residence and bringing in the mail while they were away on vacation.

Needless to say, everyone was touched by this discovery and today, many are attending the funeral. We all mourn his passing.

This experience really made me think. You see, I live alone too, just like George. Would my co-workers have sent someone looking for me? Would your co-worker’s send someone looking for you? Does your company have a plan or procedure for locating an employee that suddenly and uncharacteristically doesn’t show up for work and doesn’t call?

I am unsure of any existing policy to address this issue at Ottaway. We do, however, keep track of the folks that work in our technology department. Anyone out on vacation, personal days or sickness reports to our helpdesk. We maintain a bulletin board where information about our employee’s whereabouts is posted for all to see. I think I know where my co-worker’s are 90 percent of the time.

What does your company do, if anything, to assure the safety of employees?

Our Votes Were Counted

Congratulations USA!

We have come together as one voice and resoundingly expressed our desire for change. Our statement has been heard loud in clear in our capital. Our politicians have been put on notice. Do it right, get it right or leave town. We can no longer struggle to barely make ends meet while others greedily bury us in debt. We can no longer stand idly by and watch them ruin our financial future and security. We have all said this, each and every one, no matter whom we voted for in this election.

Now, we must all unite behind those we have given the task of adjusting our course. While certainly they must step up and prove themselves worthy, support them until they fail to meet our expectations.

If they fail, send them packing. We have, as a country, shown that we do have the power in our votes to create change. We retain that power going forward and we have reminded everyone that we will make a stand for our self-preservation.

Some time in August 2008, I was searching for information on motivation to better understand how I might encourage myself to act on projects, plans and ideas that were just dreams for many years. One of the search terms I used was “inspiration”. At the time, the President and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing, Michael Hyatt, had this, “Inspire Others - Inspire Yourself”, posted in the title. Being a curious fellow, I started reading Michael’s blog. I discovered that he is indeed quite inspirational and the more I read the more inspired I became. He has some great ideas. Recently, Michael and his company have started a program inspiring folks to write reviews about the books they publish. Once you read the book, which they provide to you at no charge, post a review of 200 words on your blog and at Amazon.com. You can sign-up for the program at Book Review Bloggers. Enjoy!

A Pig is Still a Pig

I have been watching and reading with great interest, the presidential campaign. It saddens me to think that we cannot act mature about such an important event. Each side must outdo the other in finding any small bit of perceived trash to throw in the way. If it isn’t about our families, it is our backgrounds, the way we live our lives, the mistakes we may have made in the past or any number of beliefs that we hold.

Grow up people! Judge each of our candidates for their plans and their accomplishments. Stand behind the one you think is best, but don’t react to the slander and mudslinging.

Most importantly, VOTE!

I am not sure why they are working, but they are. I went back to Google adsense and remade the script for the ad. I then copied it right into the same spot in the template as I did the first time. And it all worked except the fourth ad block. I still don’t see a difference in the ads but rather than fight with it, I just removed that part of the script and now it seems fine. Let me know folks, does it look OK to you?

Header Changes

by Bill | August 21, 2008 in Designing My Blog | Comment (3)

I am starting to understand the template files a little more and managed to find the files that display the header. I changed them just a little and added the “orange man” at the umbrella table with his laptop. He looks comfy, doesn’t he? Actually, that little guy comes in a number of different poses and situations. I am considering using him as my business “identity”. You can see more of him at the artist’s website, www.jesterarts.net. Check it out! He is really quite cool.

Hoorah! I got the FTP issue resolved with Netfirms, my hosting provider. Turns out, when I redirected the www.carrington.bz domain, the FTP login got a little picky. It didn’t recognize my old login and that was why it was failing. I also found a Twitter widget I like! It is called Twitter Tools by Alex King. I have it currently configured to only show the last three “tweets” from my account. But,it will do alot more! You can post blog entries from Twitter or tweets from the blog and a few other nifty tricks. You can read more about this widget here. You can now read my latest tweets in the sidebar.

I had intended to make some changes tonight, including adding a new widget for twitter. However, after downloading the widget I wanted and completing the install of WS-FTP on my laptop, I could not connect to the host. I had to install WS-FTP because I am in the middle of transferring my desktop computer files to the laptop and my ftp program hadn’t been moved yet. They must be having an issue on their ftp server or something. I sent them a note. And then, of course, I was goofing off and watching the Olympics. Tomorrow is another day.
